References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Proficient with central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, and drain management.
  • Must be able to read telemetry strips.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with continuous bladder irrigations (CBIs) and Foley management preferred.

Special Requests:

  • Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained.
  • Previous employment at the facility may be considered on an exception basis with approval from St. Luke’s Health System.

Unit Details:

  • Uses Epic.
  • 1:4-5 ratio based on acuity; assignments are balanced using an acuity tool in real time.
  • Multiple specialty Med/Surg unit with a high volume of bariatric surgery, urology (TURP, cystoscopy, prostatectomy, CBIs), colorectal, vascular surgery (AAA repair, endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass), acute care surgery, gynecologic surgery (mainly hysterectomies), plastic surgery/breast reconstruction (mastectomies), cystic fibrosis, and medical patients. Additional specialty surgeries include Whipple and Pectus procedures.
  • Heparin drips are common; RNs do not titrate drips.
  • Travelers may be charge if needed and they have experience.
  • CPAP, high flow, and occasional BiPAP; BiPAP-dependent patients are transferred to a higher level of care.
  • Remote telemetry monitoring.
  • CNA support is typically 1:8-10.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Every other weekend, but may be more often if needed.
  • Holidays as needed.
  • No call.
  • Scheduler works to group night shifts, when possible, into 3 in a row for work/life balance.

Floating Requirements:

  • Floating to like Med/Surg units between local hospitals, including Meridian Medical Center and Nampa Medical Center, is required. Travelers are first to float. Med/Surg floats to Med/Surg units when needed. Not super common.
