Preferred Skills/Experience: Trauma/orthopedic experience preferred.

Unit Details: Surgical trauma stepdown unit in a Level 2 trauma center; 90% of inpatients come from the ED. Cares for patients requiring acute surgical intervention, consultation, or post-op care, including trauma surgery, bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, traumatic brain injury, general surgery, urological surgery, orthopedic surgery, and neuro/spine surgery. Also cares for patients with GI bleed/endoscopy needs, pulmonary embolus, neurologic diagnoses including CVA, TIA, TBI, post-neurosurgery, and altered mental status, as well as meningitis, new-onset seizures, hypertensive crisis, chest pain, CHF, sepsis that is hemodynamically stable, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory distress requiring Venti mask, BiPAP, or CPAP. Includes pre- and post-cardiac cath lab procedural patients, hemodynamically stable post-op CV surgery patients, unstable angina, suspected MI (NSTEMI and STEMI), chest pain rule-out patients, chest pain with acute EKG changes or elevated troponin, acute cardiac dysrhythmias requiring IV/PO medication management, mild-moderate congestive heart failure with elevated BNP and/or pulmonary edema without shock, post-op femoropopliteal bypass, peripheral stents, post aortograms, post-op CEA, pulmonary embolus requiring heparin drip, and patients meeting PACU discharge criteria. Common drips include Agatroban, Agrastat/Integrelin/ReoPro, amiodarone, Cardene, Cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, Lasix, morphine or Ativan for palliative care, nitroglycerin, Primacor, and sodium bicarbonate.

Shift & Scheduling: No call.

Floating Requirements: Float to stepdown service lines, including Progressive Care Unit and Heart and Vascular Unit.
