Required Skills/Experience: 2 years PICU experience required. Must have NICU experience and be comfortable with Acute Pediatrics and the Pediatric ED. Teaching hospital experience is required.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Peds PACU experience highly preferred. Level III NICU preferred. Previous Charge Experience: Preferred. Community hospital experience is preferred.
Required Credentials: Any hit on your license must be disclosed. Hits will be sent to UVA leadership for approval prior to proceeding.
Special Requests: Can approve 40 hours for time off. No RTO can be approved the first 2 weeks of assignment. Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away.
Unit Details: Neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient population. NICU care includes high-risk deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, congenital defects, surgical needs, respiratory distress, neurological disorders, ECMO, hypothermia treatment, and respiratory, hemodynamic, and thermoregulation support. PICU cares for cardiac and medical illnesses including congenital cardiac defects, respiratory disease, trauma, transplant, neurosurgical, orthopedic, and general surgical patients; patients may require vasoactive infusions, mechanical ventilation, intracranial and hemodynamic monitoring, ECMO, and VAD support. Acute Pediatrics includes cardiology, surgery, general pediatric medicine, hematology/oncology, stepdown, and epilepsy monitoring patients. Nurse ratios: PICU 1:2; NICU 1:2 in ICU and 1:3 in ICN; Acute Pediatrics 1:3 in intermediate and 1:4-5 in acute care; Peds ED ratios vary by acuity.
Shift & Scheduling: Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Every other weekend. Must work 2 out of the 3 winter holidays.
Floating Requirements: Float to PICU, NICU, Acute Pediatrics/Peds Med-Surg, Peds PACU, and Peds ED/ED boarders. May be required to float to L&D, postpartum, and Mother/Baby on occasion or during staffing crises.
