Required Skills/Experience:

  • First-time travelers must have 2 years of perm staff RN experience in acute care.
  • Ventilator management, critical care drips/titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, measuring cardiac strips, drains, chest tubes, hemodynamic lines (Art lines/CVP), stroke experience (TPA administration), conscious sedation, assisting with splinting, and knowledge of suicide risk assessments.

Required Credentials:

  • Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival.

Special Requests:

  • Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a perm staff.
  • Up to 7 days of RTO; must extend the contract for any full week off.
  • May only request 1 weekend of RTO per 13-week contract.

Unit Details:

  • Patient population ranges from infants to end-of-life patients, with all acuity levels including MedSurg, stepdown, and ICU.
  • Traumas are stabilized and transferred to Ochsner.
  • Multispecialty cases include medical, cardiac, neuro, ortho, trauma, and interventional patients.
  • Included conditions include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, stroke requiring interventions, spinal precautions, seizures, DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, COVID, ETOH, IVDA, GI illnesses, and infections.
  • RN ratios: 1:3-4 or 1:5 in fast-track areas.
  • Charge nurse may take a patient assignment.
  • Phlebotomy, RT, hospitalist coverage, and ED physicians are in house; IV/VAT team is not available; resource nurse varies based on staffing.
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Every other weekend.
  • Will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week; this is mandatory.
  • May work 3/2 or 5/2 rotations, for example: 2 on, 2 off; 5 on, 5 off.
  • No call.
  • Required to work 2 of 3 major holidays.
