Floating Requirements:
May float to the ED, but only function as a task nurse.
Unit Details:
Patient population includes COPD exacerbations, CHF, swing-bed patients with an average stay of 12 days, patients with amputations, wound care needs, and long-term antibiotic needs, and some postpartum and pediatric patients.
Central telemetry monitoring is available, with two portable telemetry monitors.
Meditech Expanse is used for charting.
Alaris pumps are used.
In-house pharmacy is available until 11:00 PM Monday-Friday; a remote pharmacist through UNMC covers overnight and weekends.
Laboratory services are available 24/7 and handle blood draws.
Therapy services see patients several times a day.
Shift & Scheduling:
Travelers are added to the schedule after BBGH staff complete self-scheduling.
Overtime starts after 40 hours.
Orientation is 12 hours.
Special Requests:
The call-off policy allows 3 occurrences per 13 weeks.
