Additional Information

References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred.
  • SANE RN experience preferred.
  • Working at a hospital with residents (teaching hospital) preferred.

Unit Details:

  • The ED cares for patients from newborns to the elderly, ranging from minor complaints to critically ill patients, including cardiac arrest, strokes, heart attacks, and Level 1/2 trauma patients.
  • Travelers may care for trauma patients after they are stabilized in the trauma bay and transferred to a pod, but are not likely to be the primary nurse in the trauma bay.
  • The ED titrates all types of drips, including vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips; nurses should be proficient in vasopressor-drip titration.
  • ED nurses interpret and act on patient rhythms, including recognizing life-threatening rhythms; a monitor technician is available.
  • Philips monitors are used, and travelers are oriented to their use.
  • ED nurses may troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment; respiratory therapists assist with these devices.
  • Nurses and ED technicians draw labs; phlebotomy sometimes draws labs for boarded patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-5 and vary based on acuity or department needs.

Shift & Scheduling:

  • Shifts are not day/night rotating.
  • Every other weekend is required on a rotation, usually resulting in 2 shifts on followed by 4 shifts on.
  • Holiday coverage is required every other holiday or based on department needs and is negotiable based on contract requests.
  • No call requirement for travelers.
  • Travelers do not self-schedule; time-off requests may be included in the contract and are reviewed based on the ability to accommodate scheduling requests.

Special Requests:

  • Block scheduling may be available when feasible, and six shifts in a row can usually be accommodated.

Floating Requirements:

  • Floating to other units as a "help all" is very rare, and travelers are typically not floated; if floated, an ED nurse would not be expected to take a team on another unit.

Pre-employment modules may be required for this role. Please upload any certifications or health documents you have to your profile to expedite your on-boarding process.
