Unit Details: Medical ICU patient population with respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. Cares for chronic ventilator and chronic trach patients and hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring and close observation. RN ratios 1:1-2, rarely 1:3. Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Phillips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Belmont Rapid Infuser, TABLO, PCA pain management, SCDs, and cooling/heating blankets. Support includes CNAs, central telemetry, PICC team, unit secretary 7a-11p, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage; charge nurse may have patients.
Required Skills/Experience: Unit work includes trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, titratable drips to HR and BP, management of vasoactive medications, monitoring and management of invasive lines including arterial lines, central venous lines, pulse oximetry, and intracranial pressure monitoring, and assistance with bedside procedures including chest tube placement/management, tracheostomy, and PEG tube placement.
Required Credentials: ASN/BSN
Shift & Scheduling: 6 weekend shifts on a 6-week schedule (6 out of 12 shifts). Travelers will work 75% of holidays. No call.
Floating Requirements: Float to all adult ICU units in-house, including PCU.
