Required Skills/Experience: Floating experience does not count toward experience requirement. Correctional facility experience does not count toward experience requirement.
Special Requests: Travel pairs cannot request the same schedule. Cannot have an employment gap in the past 4+ months. Resume: Each employment history entry must include all the following: detailed duties, hospital size, unit size, trauma level (if applicable), patient ratio, teaching facility. Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained. Blocks are not guaranteed, but they try to accommodate traveler requests as much as possible.
Unit Details: Patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 (MedSurg ICU). If no vents/drips, 1:3. Common patient population includes cardiac/open heart, balloon, Impella, tPA, TPE, small head bleeds, post-tPA administration, level 3 trauma, sepsis, DKA, cardiac, CHF, and respiratory patients. Core staff handle specialties; if intervention is needed after tPA, patients are flown to Phoenix. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common drips include vasopressors (Epi, levophed, phenylephrine, vasopressin), inotropes (dopamine, dobutamine, primacor), antiarrhythmics (amiodarone, cardizem, esmelol, lidocaine, procainamide), anti-hypertensives (Clevidipine, labetalol, cardene, Nipride, nitro), beta adrenergic (Isuprel), sedatives (ketamine, Precedex, propofol, Versed), paralytics (Vecuronium, Nimbex, rocuronium), analgesics (fentanyl, morphine), anticoagulants (Aggrastat, tPA, Argatroban, heparin, Integrilin), and insulin. Charge nurse is free on both shifts and responds to codes and rapid response calls. PCAs are available, typically at 1:10, and can assist with EKGs, blood sugar checks, procedure setup, I/O, ADLs, and lab draws. Intensivist coverage is in house 24/7: days have 2 MDs and 1 NP; nights have 1 NP and 1 MD. RT is in ICU 24/7 and handles vent settings, intubation, and all ABGs. RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow; RT and RN assist MD with bedside trachs. Centralized tele monitoring is available; the unit support person functions as unit clerk and monitors tele, with monitors in each nurses station and in rooms.
Shift & Scheduling: 36-hour contracts only; 48-hour contracts are not available, but additional shifts may be picked up. No more than 5 days of RTO. 4 weekend shift days in 4 week period required. 2 major holidays required. Only the holiday itself, not the eve, is required for Christmas. No call.
Floating Requirements: Float to other units; floated assignments are limited to 4 patients instead of 6 patients.
