Required Skills/Experience:

  • Two (2) years current experience.

Required Credentials:

  • Advanced fetal monitoring certification accepted in place of AWHONN Intermediate.
  • Must pass BCA testing during the first week of assignment; travelers who do not pass the BCA test will be dismissed. One of the following is required:
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN).

Unit Details:

  • No charge responsibilities.
  • Ratios: 1:1 labor; 1:2 postpartum.
  • Antepartum: assess all triage patients >20 weeks; use obstetric triage acuity tools; perform labor and fetal assessment; evaluate for labor at term, preterm labor signs, signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, and acute or critical conditions such as MVA and large abruptio placentae; stabilize for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care if needed.
  • Intrapartum: labor assessment, evaluation, and care; fetal evaluation and assessment; prepare expectant mother for safe delivery; administer medications including Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, and insulin; immediate stabilization of newborn; administer newborn medications; prep for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery.
  • Postpartum/newborn: assess and care for postpartum vaginal and cesarean deliveries and newborn patients; newborn care includes hearing screens, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (hep B, vit K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assisting with circumcisions, care of opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, and hypoglycemia care.

Floating Requirements:

  • Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required.
