Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

Required Skills/Experience: Overall strong neuro experience. History of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIHSS.

Preferred Skills/Experience: EVD experience preferred.

Special Requests: Can only submit to 1 position at a time across the entire WVU system. Previous permanent candidates must be gone for 2 years. Previous travelers there for 1 full year must be gone for 2 years. If the candidate worked at a permanent facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from that facility. Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers. At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you are applying to.

Unit Details: Higher acuity neuroscience patients, including stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and EMU patients. EVD and any patients that are 24 hours post-TPA are generally assigned to permanent staff. Drip titration is by physician order in the step-down setting; some protocol-based titration may be taught on unit. Common titratable and/or set-rate drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin. Patient ratios: 1:3 for Stepdown; 1:5-6 for Floor (EMU). Charge nurse 24/7. 4 nurse aides per shift; aide ratios 1:8-9. RT is available 24/7. Floor vents are usually on set settings and are managed by RT and physician; if changes are required, patients return to ICU. Telemetry is used on this unit; RNs do not have to read strips.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule. Travelers are expected to work into the holiday rotation. 3 shifts in a row may be allowed, but this is not guaranteed; travelers need to be flexible.

Floating Requirements: Possibly to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W.
