A Cardiac Sonographer (also called an Echocardiographer) is an allied health professional who uses ultrasound to create moving images of the heart and its blood vessels. These echocardiograms help cardiologists diagnose conditions such as heart valve disease, congenital defects, and heart failure. Job responsibilities include performing transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, taking measurements of heart structures, and documenting findings for the physician. Most Cardiac Sonographers hold an ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS) credential.
