Additional Information
Required Skills/Experience:
- Comfortable with physical holds.
- Verbal de-escalation is the gold standard; seclusion or mechanical restraints may be used when indicated for safety.
- IM injections.
- Must be able to recognize escalating agitation proactively and manage multiple escalated patients at the same time.
Unit Details:
- Adult psychiatric patients with depression, anxiety, lower-functioning patients under state guardianship, and long-term placement holds.
- Potential for aggressive patients.
- Desired staffing is 2 RNs on the unit; minimum 1 RN is more common currently. 2-3 MHTs desired but not guaranteed.
- Safety resources include security support, dedicated code response resources with transponders and designated response team members, and 24/7 video monitoring staff who can initiate assistance or call codes from off-unit.
- Regular rounding from advanced practitioners with a clear call sheet to page.
- Uses Omnicell.
- Unit-specific equipment includes a restraint bed, restraint chair, video monitors, and an enclosed nurses station.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every third weekend.
- No call.
- Holidays based on scheduled days from facility.
- RTO: 5 days.
Floating Requirements:
- Could float to pediatric or adult units anywhere throughout the facility.
- Any age could be present on the unit depending on patient separation needs for that shift.
- Must be comfortable floating throughout the facility and open to schedule and shift flexibility, as they may not remain on the same unit or shift consistently.
