    Additional Information

Housing in ME becomes more expensive in the summer months, beginning in May. Be sure to confirm you are comfortable with housing options before applying.

Roles requiring state licensure only: License should not expire within 45 days following start date.

    Required Skills/Experience:

    • First-time travelers are not accepted; candidates must have completed at least 1 assignment at a facility comparable in size and acuity.
    • Required skills include titrating Pitocin; using fetal scalp electrodes; performing cervical exams; assisting the CRNA with epidural placement; managing insulin and magnesium drips; managing shoulder dystocia; circulating C-sections and/or receiving babies in the OR; neonatal resuscitation; assisting with IUPC placement and monitoring; and providing newborn care, including lactation support and the safe skin-to-skin protocol.

    Special Requests:

    • You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). For example, if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility.
    • If you are in a relationship, EMMC will not schedule you on the same days. If you are not in a relationship, you can be scheduled for the same days if not on the same shift/unit. Managers will not guarantee the same schedule for travel pairs.
    • RTO requires manager approval.

    Unit Details:

    • The setting includes a Level III NICU and Newborn Nursery.
    • Approximately 1800 deliveries occur per year.
    • Typically, 4 scheduled events are performed daily (C-sections, versions, etc.).
    • Pre-op/PACU care is provided in labor rooms, including for pre-scheduled events.
    • L&D RNs may monitor Antepartum overflow.
    • The unit receives many referrals, including cases requiring NICU care.
    • Lactation support is provided by pool staff, with many CLCs and IBCLCs assisting in labor rooms.
    • Mother-Baby uses a rooming-in model.
    • Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby are physically separate units next to one another within a locked, circular unit.
    • Patient population includes PIH, GDM, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage assessed on admission, intrapartum, and postpartum, multiples, fetal loss, drug addiction, and cervical ripening.
    • When a mother remains on the unit for continuous surveillance (Mag x 24hrs), the labor nurse documents the baby's feeds and vitals and completes the baby's assessment. Mother-Baby staff complete testing, and core staff usually perform Istat or bridge milk (PHDM) on babies.
    • Patient ratios include 1:1 for active labor and 3 M/B couplets or 3 Antepartum/NICU moms for couplet/postpartum/antepartum care.
    • RNs catch babies and provide care at delivery.
    • Fetal monitoring is remote at the bedside and nurses' station.
    • Uses Fetal Link for fetal monitoring, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis for medication dispensing.

    Shift & Scheduling:

    • Out of 8 weekend shifts per schedule, will work at least 4; these may be back-to-back.
    • No call is required; picking up call may be an option.
    • Holiday expectations include working a rotation.

    Floating Requirements:

    • Could float to Mother-Baby, but only for Antepartum, Postpartum, or occasional Mother-Baby coverage; the Newborn Nursery RN would perform 24 hr labs.

Pre-employment modules may be required for this role. Please upload any certifications or health documents you have to your profile to expedite your on-boarding process.
