Unit Details: Assesses patient condition before contrast administration or radiography procedures. Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by the physician, determines proper technique through selection of voltage, current, and exposure time, positions patients for the proper view, and instructs patients on physiological requirements for procedures. Prepares contrast media and administers it intravenously or through other body cavities. Ensures required consent forms are signed prior to procedures. Completes exam charting and other pertinent information in patient charts. Discusses procedure results with the departmental supervisor when indicated. Participates in quality assurance monitoring and recording outcomes. Operates portable radiographic equipment throughout the hospital, including medical/surgical, cardiac care, recovery, and emergency rooms. Works the control desk, performs PACS duties as needed, and ensures accurate PACS operation and transmission of images for interpretation. Teaches radiography technology students proper procedures, x-ray physics, equipment operation, anatomy, and duties and responsibilities of RT. Transports and assists patients to and from imaging departments.
