Unit Details:
- Responsible for preparing and performing all nuclear diagnostic studies and maintaining the nuclear medicine lab while following clinical protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Prepares the room and patient for exams and injects radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Calculates, measures, and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed of according to state and/or Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and practice policies.
- Acquires images according to established protocols, using professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures as needed and consulting with radiologists and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal imaging.
- Uses patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to support patient comfort, safety, and data acquisition.
- Monitors patient condition during procedures and initiates emergency procedures if needed.
- Reconfirms patient identification, reviews the reason for the procedure, confirms patient prep and contraindications, addresses and documents patient questions and concerns, and provides explanations and instructions.
- Processes images, performs image quality control, archives images, ensures documentation is complete in all systems, and reports diagnostic observations to physicians.
- Acts as a resource for students, new hires, and fellows, providing clinical and/or didactic instruction and evaluating and documenting student performance.
- Cleans equipment, determines whether it is safe for operation, obtains additional assessment or corrective action as needed, performs required equipment testing for the quality control program, and may be assigned to safely handle hazardous drugs, including receipt, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, transporting, and/or disposal.
