We’re excited to introduce a brand new resource called Trusted for New Grads, a series of tools and guides designed to empower nursing new grads to find a first job they'll love.

Five years from now, it might be difficult to recall what made May 2020 special. But for students graduating from colleges and universities across the country, joining the working world and the nursing profession amidst a global pandemic won’t be easily forgotten.

For nursing graduates, this time is particularly challenging. Despite the number of nurses bravely fighting COVID-19 on the frontlines, hospitals are facing reduced revenue due to a decrease in elective surgeries and, as a result, are reevaluating hiring needs—adding even more stress on newly graduated nurses trying to find their first nursing jobs.

We recently turned to nursing students to ask: what scares you most about joining the working nurse world, and how can we help?

From the beginning, it’s been our mission to empower the modern nurse and develop resources to support them along their careers. We recently turned to nursing students to ask: what scares you most about joining the working nurse world, and how can we help?

From Nursing Student to RN in 3, 2, 1...

From North Dakota to California to South Carolina, nursing students told us they felt unprepared in finding their first job, and overwhelmed when thinking about where to begin. While they know there’s a transition period from nursing student to working registered nurse, they told us job-search preparation was missing from their coursework, in stark contrast to their business major classmates—making the transition even more difficult.

It became clear to us that we wanted to create one place to house the tools, insights, and advice a new graduate needs to not just find a job, but launch a career they really love.

And while nursing students today can turn to their school’s career centers, friends and family, mentors and professors, and online resources for advice, there’s no singular guide to how to embark on your career in 2020.

It became clear to us that we wanted to create one place to house the tools, insights, and advice a nursing new grad needs to not just find a job, but launch a career they really love. Taking input from nursing students and everything we’ve learned over the years from building a nurses-first career platform, we did just that.

Hello, Trusted for New Grads

Today we’re making greater strides toward our commitment to empower the modern nurse and launching a series of tools and guides designed specifically to help new nursing graduates find that first role.

We like to describe it as part resume builder, part salary insights, and many parts new grad guides and resources—all in one place. We wanted to build something that helps nursing new grads stand out among applicants, simplify their search, and find confidence in the search process.

Part resume builder, part salary insights, and many parts new grad guides and resources—all in one place.

What we’re most excited about is that our New Grads tools were designed by nurses for nurses. By incorporating the perspectives of nurses with real clinical experience, we hope our resources will arm new nursing grads with skills like how to write a compelling resume, negotiate pay, and choose the right nursing residency program—empowering them to focus on their ultimate goal: becoming a nurse (and thriving while doing so).

Stand out among applicants with a job-ready resume

When it comes to job hunting, having a resume that showcases your strengths and accomplishments is crucial. With dozens of different nursing resume templates online and career centers oriented more toward business resume advice, nursing students told us it’s a challenge to know what to include (and what not to include) in their resumes.

While every nurse has their own unique story and experiences, creating a professional nursing resume follows a similar recipe.

Our resume builder makes creating that nursing-format resume super simple:

  • It guides new grads section-by-section through what information to include, fitting it to a sleek nursing template
  • With an RN-approved example resume and tips in-app, new grads can be confident they’re highlighting the right experience
  • Once the resume is complete, it’s easy to export it as PDF and save for job applications

Make smarter decisions with salary insights

As a new grad, knowing how much money to ask for—and what to expect—when negotiating your first salary is essential for getting the pay you deserve. Whether you’re already interviewing, choosing a residency based on pay, or exploring what it could look like to live in different cities, it all starts with having data on-hand.

Trusted’s Salary Explorer feature allows new grads to discover what nurses earn across years of experience in different cities across the US.

With Salary Explorer, new grads can make smarter decisions through their job search by:

  • Learning how average new grad nurse pay in one city compares to that in another city—and to national and state averages
  • Exploring cost of living data across cities to provide context to those average salary insights
  • Discovering new facilities in those areas and saving their favorites to a facilities list

Find confidence through how-to guides, built by RNs

Tools are a helpful starting point for a job search, but as anyone who’s done something for the first time knows, hearing advice from someone who has been there is priceless.

We wanted to connect new grads with real, working RN perspectives, so we collaborated with nurses to develop a series of guides—covering everything from the NCLEX to moving to their residency program—to give new grad nurses confidence when committing to their first job.

With our guides, new grads will learn:

  • How to choose the right specialty that fits their goals
  • What they can expect from their residency program
  • How to manage their credentials

Nurse Residency Search

Now, we all know that finding a residency program can be more difficult than nursing school itself. If you try to Google residency programs, you'll likely find a variety of individual programs, with no easy way to compare and contrast or save them for a later date.

To address this, we've consolidated the known residency programs into a simple search—the only place on earth where you can search all residency programs at once—that you can use to find the right program for you: you can now look up facilities based on location and then save those facilities that offer residency programs. Once you know where you'd like to apply, you can apply directly through our search tool.
