Timing

Temporary License

Approximately within 15 business days upon receipt of all required documents. The temporary license is valid for 120 days and is non-renewable.

Process

1. Register a new account

2. Complete an application for Licensure by Endorsement online

  • You will need to upload a recent photo of yourself

3. Verification of all LPN licenses held, current and expired.

  • If the state(s) participate in Nursys, you must complete the Nursys verification process, pay their fee and designate Connecticut as the receipt of the verification.
  • If the state(s) does not participate in Nursys, you must contact their state Boards directly for further instructions. They will need to submit an official Verification of Licensure form to the Connecticut Board of Nursing on your behalf.

4. A Completed Verification of Theory and Clinical Instruction Form submitted directly by the Dean or Director of the nursing program.

  • Please note that if you are a graduate from an LPN program and have not completed at least 1,500 hours of theory and clinical instruction (at least half clinical) you may substitute work experience to make up the difference.

5. Completed Work Experience Verification Form submitted directly to this office by your current or most recent employer.

6. Submit official transcript if the Connecticut Board of Nursing is unable to verify your education information through your license verification (if applicable).

If you hold a current, valid practical nurse license in another U.S. state or territory whose requirements for practicing in such capacity are substantially similar to or higher than those of Connicut, you may be eligible for a non-renewable temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut pending licensure issuance.

Please note that a temporary permit will not be issued until such time as a transcript and a Verification of Theory and Clinical Instruction Form are received directly from the school of nursing.

Renewal of license

Renewal of your license occurs every year

  • You renew online approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date.
  • You have a grace period of 90 days following expiration during which time the licensee may continue to practice and renew the license. On the 91st day, the license becomes void and the licensee must apply for reinstatement.
