Renewal cadence: Annually. You can renew online approximately 60 days prior to the license's expiration date.

Required contact hours: Two contact hours of training or education on the following. One contact hour is defined as at least 50 minutes of instruction.

You have a grace period of 90 days following expiration during which time the licensee may continue to practice and renew the license. On the 91st day, the license becomes void and the licensee must apply for reinstatement.

No background checks or fingerprints are needed in order to apply for licensure by endorsement.
Certain facilities may require background checks and fingerprints for employment.

In order to be eligible for a Connecticut nurse license based on a current out-of-state license, an applicant must arrange for the submission of the following documentation directly from the source.
Request verification of licensure via Nursys from your original state of licensure and all other states where you have ever held a professional license. If these stats do not participate in Nursys, you will need to contact that state's BON and request verification be sent to the Connecticut BON via the Verification of Licensure form.
Submit official transcripts if the Connecticut Board of Nursing was unable to verify your education information through your license verification (if applicable).

In addition to the above, LPNs are required to submit:

An official transcript submitted directly to this office by the nursing school verifying the award of a diploma, certificate, or degree in nursing. Please note that if you completed your education under a last name other than your current last name, please ask your school of nursing to indicate your current last name on the documentation submitted.3
A Completed Verification of Theory and Clinical Instruction Form submitted directly by the Dean or Director of the nursing program. Please note that graduates of an LPN program who have not completed at least 1,500 hours of theory and clinical instruction (at least half clinical) may substitute work experience to make up the difference.
Completed Work Experience Verification Form submitted directly to this office by the applicant's current or most recent employer.

Once all items have been received by the BON except license verification from a non-Nursys participating state, you may be issued a provisional license within 15 days.
A temporary RN or LPN license is valid for 120 days and is non-renewable.
In order to be eligible for the temporary license, you must hold an active license in another state that can be verified through Nursys.
