Additional Information
Required Skills/Experience: 2 years PICU experience required. Must have PICU and NICU experience and be comfortable with NICU, Acute Pediatrics, and the Pediatric ED; previous NICU/PICU float pool experience considered. Teaching hospital experience is required.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Peds PACU experience highly preferred. Level III NICU experience preferred. Previous Charge Experience: Preferred. Community hospital experience is preferred.
Required Credentials: Dr. Brown's Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required; may submit with certificate pending. Cost is $185. Any hit on your license must be disclosed. Hits will be sent to UVA leadership for approval prior to proceeding.
Special Requests: Can approve 40 hours for time off; no RTO can be approved the first 2 weeks of assignment. Travelers are not eligible to return after reaching 365 total assignment days, regardless of time away.
Unit Details: Neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient population. NICU care includes high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation for extreme prematurity, congenital defects, surgical needs, respiratory distress, neurological disorders, and other diagnoses. PICU cares for newborn through age 18 with cardiac and medical illnesses including congenital cardiac defects, respiratory disease, trauma injuries, transplantation, neurosurgical, orthopedic, and general surgical interventions. Advanced therapies and support include ECMO, hypothermia treatment, vasoactive infusions, mechanical ventilation, intracranial and hemodynamic monitoring, VAD, and respiratory, hemodynamic, and thermoregulation support. Acute Pediatrics commonly admits cardiology, surgery, general pediatric medicine, and hematology/oncology patients and includes intermediate stepdown and epilepsy monitoring. Pediatric ED cares for patients ages 0-21, with cases prioritized by acuity. Ratios vary by area: PICU 1:2; NICU/ICN 1:2 to 1:3; Acute Pediatrics intermediate 1:3 and acute care 1:4-5; Peds ED variable based on level of care.
Shift & Scheduling: Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Every other weekend and every other holiday.
Floating Requirements: Floating to various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, Peds MedSurg/Acute Pediatrics, Peds PACU, and Peds ED boarders/Peds ER. May be required to float to L&D and Mother/Baby/postpartum on occasion or if there is a staffing crisis in those areas.
