Unit Details:
The ED treats patients from newborns through the elderly, with a wide variety of complaints ranging from minor cases to critical illness, including cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks.
Level 1/2 trauma patients are cared for in the trauma bay by a specialized trauma team. Travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients after transfer to a pod but are unlikely to be the primary nurse in the trauma bay.
The ED titrates a wide variety of drips, including vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips.
The ED uses ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment; respiratory therapists assist with this equipment.
ED nurses interpret and act on patient rhythms, including recognizing life-threatening rhythms. Philips monitors are used, and travelers are oriented to their use.
Nurses and ED techs draw labs; phlebotomy sometimes draws labs for boarded patients.
Radiology staff or transport handle transport to X-ray and CT.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-5 and vary based on acuity or department needs.
Shift & Scheduling:
Positions are not day/night rotating.
Travelers do not self-schedule; shifts are assigned by the scheduling manager.
Every other weekend is required on a rotation.
No call requirement for travelers.
Six consecutive shifts can usually be accommodated.
Floating Requirements:
The clinician may be floated to other units as a help-all; floating is very rare, and travelers are typically not floated.
If floated, an ED nurse would not be expected to take a team on another unit.

Travel RN Job Salary & Responsibilities
Your travel RN salary is based on your specialty, experience, and where you secure your assignment. Registered Nurse job descriptions focus on technical knowledge and supervisory skills; attention to detail; and communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals in critical situations. But, an RN’s responsibilities also require a combination of compassion, patience, and resilience.
This isn’t news to you. You came to Trusted because you’ve tried RN staffing agencies without the personal support you need. This doesn’t surprise us, either. We’re a team of Trusted nurses who’ve been in your shoes (those comfy, non-slip shoes). We’ll help advance your career on your terms.
