Additional Details:
Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Critical drips and trach care required.
- MS/Tele nurses must have a good cardiac background.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Peritoneal dialysis preferred.
Special Requests:
- If the candidate worked at a permanent facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from that permanent facility.
- Cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.
- At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job being applied to.
- Block scheduling allowed as long as unit needs are met; scheduling requests are taken into consideration.
Unit Details:
- Pulmonary and observation unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with respiratory diagnoses and other medical conditions; trach patients are not vented.
- Titrates heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg/hr only), Lasix, dopamine (low dose renal perfusion only), and amiodarone.
- RNs must review telemetry strips each shift.
- Traveler may be asked to fill in the charge nurse role and can be cross-trained if willing/interested.
- Uses CPAP, BiPAP, high flow O2, trachs on trach collar or room air only, IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximetry, and specialty beds; RN performs trach care and RT manages vents.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every other weekend on a set rotation: weekends 1 and 3 or weekends 2 and 4.
- Holiday rotation with core staff; if previously worked there long enough, the schedule aims to avoid assigning the same holidays as the previous year, and manager can consider preferences.
Floating Requirements:
- If not needed on 3P, required to float to 4P or 5P Med-Surg units or to the Emergency Department to care for boarded patients; boarders are intermixed in the ED. Float pool floats first, then staff rotate.
