Additional Details:
Required Skills/Experience:
- Experience with pre/post heart patients — stents, pacemakers, ICDs, pre/post CABG, and pre/post vascular cases.
Special Requests:
- Permanent address must be at least 25 miles from the facility location.
- At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job.
Unit Details:
- Uses Epic.
- Nurse:patient ratios are 1:4 on days and 1:4-5 on nights.
- Heavy cardiac and cardiothoracic unit with high-acuity surgical patients.
- Common diagnoses, patient population, and procedures include pre/post cardiac procedures; femoral and radial heart cath procedures; cardioversions on the floor; post-thoracotomy directly from PACU; CABGs 24 hrs out; stents; post PCIs; vascular procedures; NSTEMI; trachs, including home-vented trachs; trachs with BiPAP and CPAP; and chest tubes.
- Some drips are titrated and some are not; dobutamine and dopamine are non-titratable, and the other drips are generally titratable.
- Common drips: Cardizem, amio, dopamine, nitro, dobutamine, Integrilin.
- Monitor techs are on the unit and do the monitoring, measuring, and documenting; travelers do not need to be experts at this.
- Uses BiPAP, CPAP, and home vents; home vent experience is not required.
- Nurse aides ratios: 1:8 on days and 1:12 on nights.
- Day charge does not take patients; night charge takes 1-2 patients.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling allowed.
- Block scheduling is allowed and is more commonly accommodated on nights.
- Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month; more flexible on both shifts.
- Holiday rotation: every other holiday for the 6 main holidays — New Year's, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
- No call.
Floating Requirements:
- Possibly float; will be in with the permanent staff rotation.
