    Required Skills/Experience:

    • Will accept a first-time traveler if they have greater than 1 year of experience.
    • First-time travelers must have Epic experience.
    • Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments.
    • Previous experience with this unit's patient types, including IMC/stepdown and neuro; ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, wound care, line management, drain/tube management, and drip titration.
    • Drip titration: most commonly Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), and occasionally esmolol drips or other beta blockers or antihypertensives; training is provided if the traveler has not done these.

    Preferred Skills/Experience:

    • Post neuro-intervention experience preferred; education and resources are provided on the unit if the traveler has not had this patient type.
    • Epic is strongly preferred; candidates without Epic require manager approval prior to offer.

    Special Requests:

    • You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility.
    • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler.
    • Holiday RTO must be requested prior to offer; at this time, holiday RTO is not being accepted.
    • Able to approve 1.5 weeks off; contract must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract.

    Unit Details:

    • Mixed acuity unit with Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg.
    • Pre/post-surgical patients, CVA, seizures, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, soft tissue injury and minor fractures, and DVTs.
    • Medication administration, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions.
    • Peripheral IV, Midline, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices.
    • Wound care; telemetry monitored patients.
    • Patient ratio 1:4, even for MedSurg assignments.
    • Uses Alaris and Omnicell.

    Shift & Scheduling:

    • 6-week schedules.
    • Weekend rotation can be up to 4 out of 6 weekends, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
    • May have the option to work every weekend (WOW).
    • No mandatory call. If an extra shift is picked up beyond scheduled contract hours and staffing is sufficient, that shift may be placed on call.

    Floating Requirements:

    • May float to any adult inpatient unit: Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, and Observation.
    • Could be floated within scope of practice and below.
    • Will float in rotation with other travelers.
