    Additional Information

    Required Skills/Experience: ICU RN required.

Required Credentials: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Special Requests: 1 reference must be from your most recent employment.

Unit Details: Patient population includes Med/Surg, PCU, and ICU. IMCU-appropriate diagnoses/conditions include complex withdrawal syndromes, including opioid use disorder requiring Precedex or other continuous drips, and alcohol withdrawal requiring the MINDS protocol. Patients on Precedex must be hemodynamically stable and demonstrating clinical improvement on the current Precedex dose for > 1 hour before transfer to 3W. Some hypertensive urgencies may be managed depending on stability. DKA can be considered with tighter monitoring requirements and requires insulin infusion and frequent glucose checks (e.g., q30-60 minutes). DKA admissions to the IMCU will not start until 10/1 (anticipated). Patients not appropriate for the IMCU include active seizure, hypertensive emergency with end-organ threat (e.g., vascular dissection, intracranial hemorrhage), altered mental status, positive pressure ventilation (BiPAP or ventilator), dialysis needs, arterial lines (A-lines), and patients requiring Bair Hugger as a continuous therapeutic device.

Floating Requirements: Intermediate Care unit float pool assignment; floats between the IMCU and step-down units and does not float to Med/Surg units.

Pre-employment modules may be required for this role. Please upload any certifications or health documents you have to your profile to expedite your on-boarding process.

Registered Nurses who specialize in progressive care will need BLS and ACLS certifications. Salaries may be higher if a nurse has additional education or PCU certifications.

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Travel Nurse Jobs in Pennsylvania

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurses work in hospital and skilled rehab settings. The Progressive Care Unit is an intermediate unit between the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and med-surg units. It is also called a "step-down unit." Patients are not as acutely ill as those in the ICU, but are also not stable enough to be in a med-surg unit with a higher nurse-patient ratio. Job descriptions for PCU nurses note excellent critical thinking skills, prior emergency or critical care experience, and assessment skills. Are you an experienced PCU Nurse?
