Additional Information
Required Skills/Experience:
- One full year of ortho/neuro/trauma experience.
- Recent Epic experience required.
- Strong neuro assessment, log rolling patients, applying assistive devices (back brace, immobilizer), Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation, and PIV insertion.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Chest tube/indwelling drain management, drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, PEGs/NGs, Buck’s traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH, and wounds (packing, wound vacs) preferred.
Required Credentials:
- Associate degree or certificate.
Unit Details:
- Patient population: trauma, ortho (broken hip/femur), neuro (scheduled neck and back, spine/rib fractures).
- Ratios: Days 1:3-5; NOCs 1:4-7; charge nurse takes patients on nights, but rarely on days.
- Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Three weekends out of every six-week schedule. Every other holiday.
- Flexible contract hours: 48 per week upon request.
- Weekly hours may be reduced during orientation week and during holidays when the unit is closed.
Floating Requirements:
- First to float within skillset. May float to Deaconess Newburgh (IN) campus (8 miles apart) and potentially to Deaconess Henderson (KY – 11 miles). 2-hour notice is given for cross-campus float. Mid-shift float within the same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible.
