Resume: Each employment history entry must include all the following: detailed duties, hospital size, unit size, trauma level (if applicable), patient ratio, teaching facility.
References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.
Required Credentials: Open-book pass/fail exam on Friday during orientation on skills learned; must receive 90% to pass. You are required to pass a Basic Dysrhythmia/EKG exam during onboarding.
Special Requests: Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained. Cannot have worked at any CommonSpirit location within the last 12 months. Cannot be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity. Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility. Limited block scheduling may be approved.
Unit Details: Med-Surg Neuro patients include strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery patients, and other Med-Surg overflow. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive. Titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; common set-rate drips include PCA pumps. Tele techs interpret strips; RNs should have some telemetry awareness. No respiratory therapy equipment troubleshooting. Mechanical lifts are available in every other room. Multiple discharges and admissions in one day are common. Cares for a culturally diverse patient population, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking patients.
Shift & Scheduling: At least every other weekend; additional weekend shifts may be required based on unit needs and census. 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years.
Floating Requirements: Float to other medical-surgical areas or to units with Med-Surg patients waiting for a Med-Surg bed.
