    Special Requests:

    Required Credentials:

    • No license or background hits.

    Unit Details:

    • MS Neuro patients include any Med/Surg Tele patient including strokes, any stable neurological deficit, post neurosurgery procedures, in addition to any other Med Surg overflow.
    • Common diagnoses/types of patients: joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive.
    • RNs are required to titrate drips: heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
    • Common titratable and/or set rate drips: PCA pumps.
    • Tele techs will interpret; RNs should have some tele awareness.
    • No RT equipment troubleshooting.
    • Mechanical lifts in every other room.
    • This unit typically has multiple discharges and admissions in one day.
    • They serve patients of all cultures on this unit including Spanish, Karen, Burmese.

    Shift & Scheduling:

    • At least every other weekend, but additional weekend shifts may be required based on unit needs and census.
    • 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years.

    Floating Requirements:

    • Float to other medical-surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed.
