Unit Details:
The 7th Floor is a surgical unit handling abdominal surgeries, trauma, and Whipple procedures.
8BC is a long-term, low-acuity unit caring for patients awaiting placement and patients receiving long-term antibiotic therapy.
The 9th Floor handles general medical cases, including chronic and acute cases.
2 South is a short-stay cardiac and COVID unit.
3 South is a neuro unit.
4 South is an ortho and spine unit.
An alternate assignment is 10th Floor Med-Surg Oncology.
The ER Transition Unit is adjacent to the ER and holds Med-Surg patients awaiting Med-Surg beds.
ERT is an emergency-room transition area with no specific patient restrictions and its own telemetry monitoring.
CDU is a rapid cardiac decision unit with its own telemetry monitoring.
MSW is a Med-Surg transition area serving mostly general Med-Tele patients, with some infection-prevention exclusion criteria.
RNs may be assigned as a CNA if the RN is short-staffed, with the same expectation as facility staff.
RNs may be assigned as entrance screeners if needed, with the same expectation as facility staff.
Most drips are at a set rate; RNs can titrate them up to the maximum in the Med-Surg guideline, and patients are transferred to critical care if the maximum is reached.
Common titratable or set-rate drips include insulin, heparin, Nitro up to 30mcg, Dobutamine up to 5mcg, Dopamine up to 5 mcg, and Cardizem up to 30 mcg for patients already taking oral Cardizem; Cardizem may not be used for new-onset arrhythmias.
Respiratory equipment and patient needs include CPAP, BiPAP, and tracheostomies; there are no ventilators.
Telemetry is monitored remotely by telemetry techs, who measure and read strips; RNs verify the readings.

Shift & Scheduling:
Every other weekend.
Schedule is based on staffing needs to cover the entire Med-Surg division.
Holiday requirement: 1-2 winter holidays.
Call or standby may be required up to 4 times during the contract.

Floating Requirements:
Primary to St. Joseph Medical Center, but if needed, travelers will be required to float throughout Region Two: St. Clare Hospital – Lakewood, WA; St. Elizabeth Hospital – Enumclaw, WA; St. Joseph Medical Center – Tacoma, WA.
Med-Surg at St. Joseph Medical Center consists of six different units with different specialties, and all units are telemetry. Travelers will be required to float to cover the need of the entire Med-Surg/Tele division and may also float to alternate Med-Surg/Tele units.
