Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed. If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility. References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.
Required Skills/Experience: Must be able to read and interpret strips and have experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone.
Preferred Skills/Experience: TR Bands experience preferred.
Special Requests: Eligibility as current/previous employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers. All time-off requests must be upfront and in the contract; requests after that must be approved by the facility. Manager may consider occasional day-off requests based on unit needs.
Unit Details: Mixed med/surg and cardiac observation unit. Common patients include pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, arrhythmias, and med/surg diagnoses. Common drips include set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone; occasional Bumex and Lasix. Tele monitor techs are on the 3rd floor, and there is a real-time monitor on the unit. Charge nurse is on the unit 24/7; night charge always takes patients, and day charge sometimes takes patients. Nurse aides assist with EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, ADLs, and vital signs. Uses BiPAP and CPAP for supportive therapy only; patients dependent on BiPAP or CPAP would likely transfer to a higher-acuity unit. Very busy, fast-paced unit with up to 6 discharges per day and 6+ admissions.
Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend for travelers; night weekend shifts are Fri/Sat/Sun. Call or standby may occur if census is low, but not often.
Floating Requirements: Travelers are typically first to float. They may float anywhere in the hospital, including ICU and Stepdown, but will only receive patients within their skillset.
