Additional Details:
Required Skills/Experience: Required knowledge of routine central line care, including: Dressing changes; Troubleshooting; Declotting; Port access; Familiarity with the Johns Hopkins Hospital layout is beneficial, as this role involves extensive walking throughout the facility.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Pediatric experience.
- Adult Vascular Access experience strongly.
- Demonstrated proficiency in peripheral IV insertions, with ultrasound guided PIV experience.
- Vascular access team experience preferred but will consider recent IV placement experience from ED, ICU, Pre Op, or Labor & Delivery settings.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Weekend: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday: as needed
- Call: No availability call requirements

Vascular Access nurse job responsibilities include assessing patients to determine the type of vascular access needed, reviewing medications, and troubleshooting and managing existing vascular access, such as dressing changes of PICCs. Vascular Access nurses undergo additional training for PICC line insertion that uses ultrasound equipment. Nurses must perform a minimum of 25 supervised insertions before applying for basic PICC certification. Vascular Access nurses are Registered Nurses and many obtain certification in the Vascular Access specialty. The annual salary in the United States for Vascular Access nurses is around $94,000.
