Required Skills/Experience:
- Two (2) years current experience.
Required Credentials:
- AWHONN intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification.
- Traveler must pass the BCA testing during the first week of assignment. Travelers that do not pass the BCA test will be dismissed.
- One of the following is required:
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN).
Unit Details:
- Antepartum responsibilities include assessing all triage patients >20 weeks, using obstetric triage acuity tools, labor assessment and evaluation, fetal evaluation and assessment, and evaluation for labor at term, PTL signs, signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, preterm premature rupture of membranes, vaginal bleeding, and acute and critical conditions such as MVA and large abruptio placentae; must stabilize the patient for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care if needed.
- Intrapartum responsibilities include labor assessment, evaluation, and care; fetal evaluation and assessment; preparation of expectant mother for safe delivery; administration of medications including Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, mag sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, and insulin; immediate stabilization of newborn; administration of newborn medications; and prep for scheduled or emergency cesarean delivery.
- Postpartum/newborn responsibilities include assessment and care of postpartum (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) and newborn patients; newborn care includes hearing screen, assisting with laboratory draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (hep B, vit K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assisting with circumcisions, care of opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, and hypoglycemia care.
Floating Requirements:
- Floating between departments and local locations within 20 miles is required.
