Required Skills/Experience:
- EKG/telemetry strip interpretation and medication titration required.
Unit Details:
- Patient population includes MI, CHF, A-fib, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placements, lung surgery patients with frequent chest tubes, esophagectomy patients not fresh from PACU, and general medicine overflow.
- Titrates Cardizem and heparin drips.
- Uses Phillips telemetry monitors, and monitor techs are available.
- Respiratory support includes CPAP and BiPAP for home-regimen patients, with heated high flow used only in special circumstances for COVID patients.
- Nurse-patient ratios: days 1:4-5, nights 1:5-6.
- PCT support ratios: days 1:8-9, evenings 1:9-10, nights 1:10-12.
- 24/7 charge nurse rarely takes patients; house supervisor available 24/7.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every other weekend; nights work Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.
- Holiday rotation includes Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve.
- No call required.
Floating Requirements:
- Float to other general medical units.
