Preferred Skills/Experience: RN experience with respiratory/vented patients strongly preferred.

Unit Details: Medical, rehab, and respiratory patient population. Ratios: 1:5-8, average 6 or 7. Approximately 65% chronic vent/trach and 35% rehab-type patients including stroke, TBI, respiratory failure, and COPD. Medical environment, not traditional Med/Surg. Nurses do not manage ventilators; RTs handle vents. Nurse responsibilities include IV starts, drips, blood administration, EKGs, medication titrations, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, complex and simple wound dressings, trach care, suctioning, straight cath, Foley care, port access, central line dressing changes, and wound measurements.

Shift & Scheduling: Every other weekend required.

Floating Requirements: Will float to like units at New Britain Campus; travelers float first. Respiratory Care Unit/Respiratory Step Down ratios: D/E 1:9, N 1:12. MRU/CMU medically complex rehabilitation with cardiac monitoring ratios: D/E 1:7, N 1:9. TRU ratios: D/E 1:7-10, N 1:12; TBI and medically complex chronic care. Float RNs will not be assigned to Pediatrics unless pedi-specific.
