Required Skills/Experience: 2-5 years of clinical experience in the specialty is required. For IMCU, all candidates must have some PICU experience due to floating.
Unit Details: Nurse/patient ratios: PICU 1:1-2, IMCU 1:3-4. Patient population: PICU - respiratory distress, CRRT, ECMO, post arrest, trauma (blunt & penetrating), neuro, surgical post-ops, urology, ortho, ENT (trach revision, occasional cleft lip/palate), burns if intubated & < 13 years, new onset DKA. IMCU - respiratory distress, DKA, chronic vents, trach's, and other diagnoses stepped out of the PICU. Ancillary assistance: CNA/PCT support with 1-2 PCTs per shift. Advanced practice is on the units. In PICU, there are residents, fellows, and attending MDs. In 3C IMCU, there are hospitalists until 11PM, then residents. Equipment: Pyxis with bar code scanning, pharmacy dose, GE Dash, Servi I, long term vents in the IMCU, and an in-house transport system. RTs and RNs manage ventilators.
Shift & Scheduling: Manager/scheduler driven schedule; no self-scheduling. Every other weekend is required. No on-call. Holidays are required, as needed.
Floating Requirements: Floating required within the ICU cluster (NICE, PICU, Burn PICU, IMCU). Travelers are first to float.
