Shift & Scheduling:
- Day/night rotate, weekends as scheduled.
- Weekend Requirement: Fri/Sat/Sun are all considered weekend shifts. Nights has to work 4 weekend night shifts/4 week schedule. Days has to work 4 weekend day shifts/4 week schedule; however, no one on this unit truly works straight days. Anyone who works straight days is required to work a minimum of 3 night shifts/4 week schedule. The 3 night shifts do not have to be on the weekend. The only shift that is considered a straight shift is nights.
- Holidays: Travelers must be flexible if they need them to work holidays; however, they don't usually have to work many holidays as they are typically covered by the perm staff.
Floating Requirements: All staff are required to float as needed into the rotation (Tele or MedSurg) w/ ratios up to 1:6, possibly 1:7 in MedSurg (not common).
Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.
If candidate worked a perm facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from perm facility.
References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.

Job responsibilities of a Step-Down nurse include maintaining ventilators, administering treatments and medications, collaborating with members of the healthcare team, and interacting with patients and their families. Registered Nurses who specialize in Step-Down Unit will need BLS and ACLS certifications. They will manage many high-risk IV medications such as Heparin or Insulin infusions.
