Required Skills/Experience: Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry.
Preferred Skills/Experience: 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience is most preferred. 1.5 years of ICU experience excluding travel may be considered with significant RN experience outside of ICU. Cardiac experience preferred: CABG/TAVR with 24 to 48 hrs post-op experience. Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred.
Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler. No RTO during holidays. Up to 7 days of RTO allowed; assignment must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract. No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year).
Unit Details: Mixed MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU unit divided into pods. Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma patients. Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical cases, and multiple system trauma; heavy trauma population. Fresh open heart cases are generally assigned to permanent staff unless prior experience supports the assignment. RN ratios 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3, based on acuity. Peripheral blood draws only; ICU CRNs place all midlines. Uses Alaris pumps (switching to Baxter pumps by October) and Omnicell. May be expected to precept students.
Shift & Scheduling: 48-hour/week contract expected; other hour arrangements may require manager approval. Weekend rotation tries for every other weekend, but this is not guaranteed. No call.
Floating Requirements: Would not float into the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty. Floating is not common unless overstaffed; may float to ED if qualified and to any adult floor, including Medsurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio.
