Artificial nails are not allowed for any travelers. Failure to adhere could result in being sent home and/or terminated if policy is not followed.

If candidate worked a permanent facility in the last 12 months, 1 reference must be from that permanent facility.

Eligibility as Current/Previous Employee: cumulative experience applies for previous travelers.

References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you are applying to.

Required Credentials:

• Must take and pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Unit Details:

• Common patient populations include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology; permanent staff administer chemotherapy.
• Mainly 1:5-6 on both days and nights on most units; once or twice a month could have 7 patients toward the end of the shift depending on acuity.
• CPAP and BiPAP only; respiratory therapy manages.
• Uses Philips telemetry; most units have monitor techs.

Shift & Scheduling:

• Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday).
• Works holidays in rotation with permanent staff.

Floating Requirements:

• Most frequent float units are 6N and 7N; other possible units are 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care.
• Float Pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment. They will most likely be assigned a parent unit and will only be assigned very basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice; must be able to read and interpret strips and will not have to titrate drips.
