Special Requests:
- Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained.
- Cannot have worked at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity location within the last 12 months, including full-time, part-time, or PRN employment.
- Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility.
Required Credentials:
- You are required to pass a Basic Dysrhythmia/EKG exam during onboarding.
- Clinician must take and pass the dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract; if the clinician fails to score 80% in two attempts, they will be DNU for CS AZ and Sacramento for 6 months.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Adult MS/Tele experience required.
- Experience working with children is required. Must care for adult patients as well.
- RNs must be able to read telemetry strips.
Unit Details:
- Mixed unit of adult and pediatric patients; the adult/pediatric census varies, and at times there are more adults than pediatric patients.
- Ratios: Pediatrics 1:3-4; MST 1:5.
- Common cases include total hip and knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory laparotomy, MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD, pneumonia, COVID, chest pain, respiratory illnesses (RSV, Influenza, COVID), chronic seizures, dehydration, appendectomy, and failure to thrive.
- Pediatric patients are med-surg level only; no feeding tubes, trachs, or vents. Will assist to stabilize for transfer if status changes.
- No titratable drips.
- Nursing assistants take 10 patients; if no nursing assistant is available, the RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care.
- Administers high flow to stabilize for transfer and cares for stable adult patients needing BiPAP for chronic conditions.
- Adult MST patients are on telemetry with remote monitor techs; bedside monitors are used for pediatric patients.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every other weekend; Friday and Saturday for nights.
- Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly.
- If low census, staff rotates standby turns.
Floating Requirements:
- First to float.
- Float to the MST unit on East Campus to care for adult MST patients if the census on the pediatric/MST unit drops.
- Cross-train and float to the MCU or birthing unit to care for mom-baby couplets; would not float to West Campus. If the clinician has labor and delivery experience, they can float there as well.
