Additional Details:
Required Skills/Experience:
- 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year of CVICU experience.
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet the above criteria.
- Competent in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Specific CV surgical experience with ECMO, CVVH, IABP, and VAD preferred.
Unit Details:
- Cardiac cases include immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous).
- Thoracic surgeries include fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, and lobectomy.
- Vascular cases include fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy.
- RN draws from invasive lines; peripheral sticks are not allowed.
- Charge nurse is rarely assigned patients; HUC available 24/7.
- Dedicated CVICU intensivist 24/7, CT surgeon on call 24/7, hospitalist onsite 24/7, general intensivist 24/7, and ICU-designated RT 24/7.
- Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring; no tele tech.
- Phlebotomy assists with peripheral blood draws.
- Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and GE monitors.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every 3rd weekend.
- No call.
- Holidays: 1-2 per contract.
- 6-week schedule; schedule is received 1-2 weeks before it begins.
- Cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Special Requests:
- RTO: ok to approve up to 7 days.
Floating Requirements:
- May float to ED Holding (board patients waiting for an inpatient bed), other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (ratio 1:3), sitter assignments, and PACU surge.
