Additional Details:
Required Skills/Experience:
- 3 years of ICU experience with 1-year CVICU experience.
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet the 3 years of ICU experience with 1-year CVICU experience requirement.
- Competent in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, TV), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Prefer travelers with specific CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD).
Unit Details:
- Cardiac cases include immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous).
- Thoracic surgeries include fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, and lobectomy.
- Vascular cases include fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy.
- RN ratios: 1:1, 1:2 if regular ICU status, 1:3 mixed status. Tech ratio: 1:8-10.
- RNs draw out of invasive lines and are not allowed to do peripheral sticks.
- Charge nurse rarely has a patient assignment.
- Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring; no tele tech. Phlebotomy assists with peripheral blood draws.
- Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every 3rd weekend.
- No call.
- Holidays: 1-2 per contract.
- Approval of RTO: ok to approve up to 7 days.
- 6-week schedule cycle.
- Cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
Floating Requirements:
- ED Holding (board patients waiting for an inpatient bed), other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (Ratio-1:3), sitter, and PACU surge.
