Required Skills/Experience: Experience with surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma ICU patients. Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry. May consider 1.5 years of ICU experience excluding travel with significant RN experience outside of ICU.
Preferred Skills/Experience: 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience is most preferred. Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24 to 48 hrs post-op. Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred.
Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler. No RTO during holidays. Up to 7 days of RTO allowed; must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract. No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year).
Unit Details: Mixed ICU with MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU pods. Complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical cases, and multiple system trauma; heavy trauma population. Fresh open hearts are typically assigned to permanent staff unless the traveler has prior experience and the facility is comfortable. RN ratios 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3, depending on acuity. ICU CRNs place all midlines. Uses Alaris pumps (switching to Baxter pumps by October) and Omnicell. Could be expected to precept students.
Shift & Scheduling: 48-hour/week contract; if not interested in 48 hours/week, manager approval is required. Weekend rotation tries for every other weekend but is not guaranteed. No call.
Floating Requirements: May float to the ED or to any adult floor, including Medsurg/Tele with a 1:4 ratio, when overstaffed; floating is not common. Would not float into the CVICU side unless experienced in that unit/specialty.
