Additional Information
Required Skills/Experience:
- 2 years as RN, one full year ortho/neuro/trauma, 1 travel assignment, trauma level II experience.
- Recent Epic experience required.
- Strong neuro assessment, log rolling patients, applying assistive devices (back brace, immobilizer), Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers are required to pass a tele test; stepdown experience only), PIV insertion.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Chest tube/indwelling drain management, drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, PEGs/NGs, Buck’s traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH, wounds (packing, wound vacs).
Unit Details:
- Patient population: trauma, ortho (broken hip/femur), neuro (scheduled neck and back, spine/rib fx).
- Ratios: Days 1:3-5; nights 1:4-7; charge nurse takes patients on nights, but rarely on days.
- Teaching hospital; may require precepting of students and new hires.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Three weekends out of every six week schedule. Every other holiday.
- Flexible contract hours: 36 per week; 48 per week available upon request.
- Weekly hours may vary during orientation week and holidays when the unit is closed.
Floating Requirements:
- First to float within skillset. Deaconess Newburgh (IN) campus (8 miles apart) and potential to float to Deaconess Henderson (KY – 11 miles). 2 HR notice given for cross campus float. Mid-shift float within same campus. Cross campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible.
