References: At least one reference must be from the same unit/specialty as the job you're applying to.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit.
- Must have heparin titrated drip experience; heparin drips are titrated based on PTT.
Special Requests:
- Scheduling requests are considered when possible; block scheduling may be available if staffing allows.
Unit Details:
- Common patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience, and some medical overflow.
- RNs are required to titrate drips.
- Charge nurse and house supervisor are available 24/7; the charge nurse typically does not take an assignment unless the unit is short staffed.
- Patient care tech support ratios: days 1:9-10, evenings 1:9-10, nights 1:10-12.
- House-wide telemetry; nurses are not required to read their own strips. Uses Phillips monitors.
- Stable COVID patients may occasionally require high flow.
Shift & Scheduling:
- Every other weekend; Saturday and Sunday are considered the weekend on both shifts.
- Every other holiday.
- No call.
Floating Requirements:
- Float in rotation with the rest of staff. General unit traveler floats to general unit floor and takes a full team. If floated outside of the general unit for urgent need, assignments will be limited to skills they are competent to perform and they will be paired with a nurse trained for that unit.
