Required Skills/Experience:
Aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G-tube/J-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, Foley insertion and management, and discharge skills are required.
If you have a multistate license, you will be required to complete a 1-time 6-hour suicide prevention training according to WA state regulations.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
CRRT experience with Prismax preferred.
CICU experience preferred.

Unit Details:
Patient population includes respiratory patients requiring high-flow, CPAP, or BiPAP; patients with trachs, chemo, RSV, asthma, or COVID; and medical patients with MIS-C, new-onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronic illness, or oncology diagnoses.
Trauma cases include falls, MVAs, and similar injuries.
Cardiovascular patients include those with congenital heart defects who remain from surgery through discharge.
Surgical cases include appys, G-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, broken bones, VP shunts, cardiac cases, and neuro cases.
Stat categories 1, 2, and 3 are seen, with occasional category 4 cases.
The unit does not take solid organ transplant, major burn, or stem cell transplant patients.
During a tier 3 COVID surge, the unit may care for patients up to age 30; this is extremely rare.
Bad facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are sent to Level 1 Trauma Center—Harborview.
For ECMO cases, an ECMO specialist manages the ECMO machine.
The unit uses Prismax for CRRT; CRRT is seen at fairly low volume, and travelers may take CRRT patients if they have previous experience and train with Prismax, although CRRT will likely be assigned to core staff.
PICU overflow is interchangeable with MedSurg and includes neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patients.

Shift & Scheduling:
Shift times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.
Every other weekend rotation.

Floating Requirements:
Floating includes MedSurg, ED, or NICU as a Helping Hand or Constant Observer.
