Unit Details:
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2 and may be 1:1 or 1:3.
Post-surgical, open abdomens, multisystem trauma, and endovascular patients.
Titration of drips is required.
Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin.
Intensivist coverage is approximately 0700 - 1900, with telemedicine intensivist support and an attending on call overnight.
Uses vents, CPAP, and BiPAP.
Monitor techs are available; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting strips.

Shift & Scheduling:
6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period.
Every other holiday.
No call or standby requirement.

Floating Requirements:
If floated to a lower level of care, travelers take a full team: 3 patients on stepdown and 5-6 patients in the general med environment.
